What does the Testing Center provide?

Who We Serve

Our Testing Centers serve current students and faculty on the Klamath Falls and Portland-Metro campuses, by providing a reduced distraction environment for students taking exams while maintaining academic integrity on behalf of the faculty.  While we strive to provide a welcoming environment, our Testing Centers are unable to proctor exams for an entire course and are also unable to provide proctors in the classroom.

Accommodated Exams:

The Testing Center is available to proctor exams on behalf of the faculty for students with approved Testing Accommodations.  Each Testing Center is equipped with staff, technology, and resources to provide an environment that can meet all Testing Accommodations provided by the university.

Make-Up Exams:

The Testing Center is available to proctor exams for students who are 'making-up' a missed exam due to unforeseen circumstances outside of the student's control (ex. illness, bereavement, etc.).  Make-up exams should be scheduled only after the student has missed the class exam; they cannot be scheduled in advance.  Due to finite seating, the Testing Centers may need to decline 'Make-Up' Exam requests if space is unavailable.  Please contact your campus Testing Center for further assistance.

Faculty initiate the 'make-up' exam by completing the below request form (campus-specific):

Testing Center FAQs

If your instructor has indicated that they are allowing the class to use a personal device for the exam (laptop, tablet, etc.), they must indicate that in the Testing Agreement they create with the Testing Center.  The Testing Center staff will not allow the use of a personal device unless approved by the instructor in the Testing Agreement.  It is recommended that if you are using the Testing Center for your exam and your instructor has indicated/announced the allowance of a personal device for the class exam that you remind them to include that in their Testing Agreement.  The use of a cellphone or other primarily communication device is not allowed.

In most cases, no - out of precaution for any unknown allergens that a student may have, only water is permitted in the Testing Centers.  It is recommended that you finish all meals and store any beverages you may have prior to beginning your exam.  IF you have an accommodation for food/drink during an exam, we recommend arriving early to the Testing Center so that a plan to support that accommodation can be made.

You will need to make alternate arrangements with your instructor. Due to the limited space in the Testing Center, especially around times when students typically travel (midterms, Finals Week), your request may not be possible.  It is important to always check your course syllabi and the Final Exam schedule (posted by the Registrar's Office) before making travel plans.

Yes - you can take short breaks for the bathroom or other purpose during your exam, however, your exam time is not paused.  It is recommended that you take a bathroom break before starting the exam.  While breaks are allowed, you are not allowed to access the personal items in your locker once the exam has started.  If you need to take a break to attend to medical needs, please create that plan with the proctors in advance of your exam to ensure that access can be efficient.

Oregon Tech offers you the opportunity to take your online exams at home with online proctoring if approved by your instructor. Using a webcam and a reliable high-speed internet connection, you can take your exams anywhere.

  • Respondus Lockdown Browser - You will use this browser to take quizzes/tests that have the requirement indicated. When you open the Respondus Browser to take a quiz/test, you will be asked to select which program you're using. Please select Canvas.
  • Respondus Monitor - Students use their own computer and a webcam to record assessment sessions, all without leaving Canvas.

Online proctoring requires a review of your testing environment. Please consider your testing location prior to taking the test. If you are uncomfortable with proctors seeing that location, you should consider removing personal items or moving to a location that you feel comfortable showing such as another room of your residence, a library study room, or publicly available meeting room.
