Volume #37 - Mountain With a Hole on Top

Volume 37 of the Shaw Historical Journal is Now Available!

This year's Shaw Historical Journal focuses on the 125th Anniversary of the Crater Lake National Park. Located on the Pacific Rim's "ring of fire" of volcanic peaks, it has a violent and unique history. Just 7,700 years ago, a violent eruption emptied a huge chamber of magma from below the mountain, and caused the upper part of Mt. Mazama to collapse into the enormous empty chamber. A deep crater was left over, which eventually filled with water to create Crater Lake. Today, the Lake is the deepest lake in the country and is renowned for its clear blue water.
