Oregon Institute of Technology honored its own on September 17th during the annual convocation of faculty and staff prior to the start of the 2012-13 academic year. Employees were recognized for outstanding service to students and to the university.
The Oregon Tech Foundation presented the Faculty Achievement Award recognizing outstanding accomplishments of Oregon Tech faculty members whose service makes a difference in students’ lives and adds significantly to the vitality of the university. This year, the Foundation honored Charles “C.J.” Riley, Ph.D., assistant professor of civil engineering, and LeAnn Maupin, associate professor of medical imaging technology.
The Oregon Tech Foundation also awarded the Faculty Alumni Engagement Award to faculty members who have demonstrated enthusiasm, commitment, creativity, and cooperation in their efforts to engage alumni with their department, the alumni relations office, and the university as a whole. The Foundation recognized Professor Randy Albert from the computer systems engineering technology department and Assistant Professor Paula Russell from the dental hygiene department.
Dierdre Williams, general instruction office manager in the dental hygiene program, received the Oregon Public Employee Union Classified Staff Award. Williams’ colleagues nominated her for her professionalism, attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and positive attitude, among other reasons.
Ron McCutcheon, director of human resources, was presented the President’s Staff Award given to an individual whose achievements extend to the university as a whole, who puts the wellbeing of the university above personal needs, and who makes Oregon Tech a better place to work. McCutcheon has worked at Oregon Tech since 1996. He became the director of human resources in 2007. Colleagues cited his wealth of knowledge in labor relations, policies and procedures, the integrity he demonstrates in every aspect of his job, as well as his sense of humor and caring nature in working with others as reasons to recognize McCutcheon.
Oregon Tech’s Student Affairs Division awarded the Most Valuable Partner Award to recognize exceptional collaboration with the student affairs staff. This year, the award was given to two individuals for their assistance to the division: Leticia Hill, purchasing agent, and Joel McPherson, web content coordinator. Hill was recognized for assisting Student Affairs with the often difficult task of making large, necessary, and sometimes emergency, purchases for the division. Student Affairs also thanked McPherson for his web skills, willingness to teach others, patience, and guidance in how to build effective web pages.
