Joshua Allan

Alumnus, Class of 2018
Major(s): Renewable Energy Engineering

Why did you choose this program (major)?

I was drawn to the REE program for its inclusion of a variety of engineering disciplines as well as the career field that it prepared me for.

What are you passionate about changing in this particular field and why? How are you planning to use your degree in the future?

I am open to a wide range of career paths but working in the power industry, upgrading our grid system, or in a number of renewable energy industries would be great. I think increasing the amount of energy generation by renewables is a direction we need to go.

Why did you decide to join TOP?

College was a challenge much larger than any I had faced before, and I needed all the support that I could get. TOP has been large force in my success at Oregon Tech.

Is there anything about Oregon Tech that you wish everyone knew about?

Oregon Tech is a tight-knit community where it can seem that you have connections with nearly every person on campus. This makes meeting new friends and finding resources very easy.

What is your favorite hobby, and do you have any experiences you would like to share regarding that hobby?

My favorite hobby while at Oregon Tech has been participating on the Oregon Tech Rugby Team. I remember taking a big step out of my comfort zone by going to the first practice but have never regretted it. I recommend reaching out to at least one group or club on campus your first week.

What fuels you to succeed?

I have goals providing for a family and succeeding now will make that a lot easier.

Who is your favorite professor and why? Do you know any interesting facts about that particular professor?

Professor Sedlock was an inspiration. Even though he was past retirement he remained very enthusiastic about the subjects he taught.
