Are you looking to further your education as a Medical Laboratory Technician? Wanting to advance or seek out new career opportunities? Beginning fall of 2024 as a certified, working MLT, you can complete your bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science with our MLT to MLS online degree completion program.

About the MLS Degree Completion Program

Certified Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLT) with an associate degree and currently working in the field, can now earn a bachelor’s in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) with our online degree completion program. Certified MLTs have mastered many of the basic laboratory skills in their associate degree program and work experience. This allows for the option of taking online classes and a flexible schedule for working MLTs.
This online program does not include the student laboratory practices performed on campus in our traditional MLS degree track. Instead, students admitted to our online program complete assigned competencies and/or projects at the affiliated laboratory site where they are working. Upon completion of the program, students are awarded a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science from OHSU and Oregon Tech.

  1. Students can attend part-time or full-time.
  2. Credit for Prior Experiential Learning, up to 31 upper-division credits (Credit for National Registry or Licensure Exam).

Who is eligible?

  1. MLTs certified through ASCP or AMT.
  2. Currently working in the field as an MLT.
  3. You must meet the Oregon Tech admissions criteria.
  4. Students must have completed MLS prerequisite coursework to begin the professional program.

Program Overview

Students will need to be working as a Medical Laboratory Technician and have the educational support of the lab where they are currently employed. Designated Lab preceptors will work with MLTs to ensure program goals are being met.

  1. Lectures are asynchronous.
  2. Labs are competency and project-based to be completed on your own time.
  3. Students can attend full-time or part-time.

Pre-Professional Phase MLT to MLS

All prerequisite coursework can be completed at Oregon Tech, either at the Klamath Falls or Wilsonville campus or any regionally-accredited university or community college. Students wishing to complete their prerequisite coursework with Oregon Tech should apply directly to the Office of Admissions. The MLS application is not due until you are ready to apply for the professional year.  For information on how to apply to Oregon Tech, visit the Office of Admissions page. Questions about the general admissions process should be addressed to the Admissions Office. After acceptance to Oregon Tech, you will be assigned an advisor from the MLS program to review your transcripts and help with your goals.

Some MLT coursework may satisfy MLS prerequisite coursework. Please see an advisor for more information.
