Certificate Overview

The ethics certificate provides students with advanced ethical reasoning skills and an advanced ethically relevant knowledge base. By offering a variety of elective courses from multiple areas, the program is designed to be customizable and complimentary to your career path and goals.

  • PHIL 225 - Bioethics
  • PHIL 305 - Medical Ethics
  • PHIL 307 - Seminar (advisor approval required)
  • PHIL 342 - Business Ethics
  • PHIL 355 - Ethics & Philosophy of AI
  • PHIL 425 - Environmental Ethics

18 credits from this list are required for the certificate. One of the elective courses selected must be a 300-level PHIL course.

Please be aware that although the certificate requires only 18 credits, one of the program's required courses and many of the program's elective courses have prerequisite courses. Consequently, to complete the certificate, non-degree seeking student will likely need to complete some additional prerequisite courses that are independent of the certificate.

For non-degree seeking students (those not enrolled in a degree program at the university), please see the info below:

Financial aid is not offered to students in this program but a payment plan is available. Follow the steps below to get started:

  1. Submit the Non-Degree Seeking Application.
  2. Watch for an email from the Admissions Office about registration.
  3. Register yourself for classes when registration opens.

Non-degree seeking students do not pay application fees since they are not attending a degree program and are limited to 8 credits per term.

Awarding the Certificate

Oregon Tech awards formal certificates upon completion of all requirements. The Registrar's Office advises soon-to-be graduates to submit the Application for Degree two terms before completing the certificate. A certificate cannot be awarded without the application found in TechWeb.
