Certificate Overview

In today's data driven workplace, rapidly evolving technology can create challenges, but also opportunities. In this 18 credit certificate you'll learn about the basics of PC hardware and software and then select from a list of electives to customize your certificate based on your goals.

Advanced courses (choose at least two)

  • MIS 341 Relational Database Design I (take MIS 118 and 275 first)
  • MIS 344 Business Intelligence (take MIS 341 first)
  • MIS 351 Enterprise Networking (take MIS 251 first)
  • MIS 357 Information & Communication Systems in Health Care (take MIS 255 first)
  • MIS 365 Cloud Computing (take MIS 251 and 273 first)

18 credits is required for the certificate. An Honors certificate is available to those who complete 21 certificate credits with a cumulative 3.5 GPA. Many of these classes are also required for our online Bachelor of Science in Information Technology.

Admission Process

Full admission to Oregon Tech is not required. Financial aid is not offered to non-degree seeking students but a payment plan is available. Follow the steps below to get started:

  1. Submit the Non-Degree Seeking Application. Select the online MIS Certificate as your major.
  2. Watch for an email from the Admissions Office about registration.
  3. Register yourself for classes when registration opens.

 

Students using Veteran Affairs benefits should apply to Oregon Tech using the Online First-Year or Online Transfer application instead of the Non-Degree Seeking application.

Non-degree seeking students do not pay application fees since they are not attending a degree program and are limited to 8 credits per term.

Once registered you are responsible for the tuition and fees. The payment and refund schedule, along with the payment plan application, is located on the Cashier’s Office website. The Academic Calendar details important registration dates and withdraw deadlines.

Awarding the Certificate

Oregon Tech awards formal certificates upon completion of all requirements. The Registrar's Office advises soon-to-be graduates to submit the Application for Degree two terms before completing the certificate. A certificate cannot be awarded without the application found in TechWeb.

Loving what you've learned so far? Oregon Tech offers a fully-online Bachelor of Science in Information Technology that includes nearly all of these same courses! When you decide to start your degree you'll already have some classes completed.
