Caroline Schulze, a Civil Engineering student at Oregon Tech, has been selected as a recipient of the 2021-22 Oregon undergraduate Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Scholarship, a scholarship valued at $2,500 to promote the advancement of the transportation profession by providing financial assistance to students pursuing degrees in transportation engineering or other related fields.
Originally from Loveland, Colorado, Caroline is on track to graduate in 2023 with a bachelor's and master's degree in civil engineering. She chose Oregon Tech's engineering program because of the unique nature that prioritizes hands-on complex design skills and the importance of how humans and the natural environment interact with infrastructure. Caroline shares, "The program has taught me that civil engineers not only need to understand how to design safe infrastructure, but they also need to understand the impact their projects have on the natural environment and the surrounding communities. Safety, equity, and sustainability are at the core of every civil engineering project. I truly feel that the Civil Engineering department is setting me up to make a positive impact in my professional career."

Additionally, Caroline recently completed an internship with GRI Engineering in Beaverton, Oregon, where she worked extensively in geotechnical testing and pavement engineering.
This is the third year in a row that an Oregon Tech undergraduate or graduate student has been awarded the scholarship. The scholarships are awarded annually from a large pool of applicants from several Oregon universities.

"My love for civil engineering has only grown because of their enthusiasm for the profession! Their dedication to every student is the best part about being in the Civil Engineering department at Oregon Tech."
