Oregon Tech invites the public to attend a formal ribbon cutting on Friday, April 18, 2014 at 12 p.m. to celebrate the completion of the university’s geothermal power plant and solar panel array. The ceremony will be held behind the John F. Moehl Stadium.
Special guests include Governor Kitzhaber and Cylvia Hayes, Senator Wyden, Senator Merkley, Senator Whitsett, and Energy Trust of Oregon. Local dignitaries and university personnel will also be in attendance.
Oregon Tech’s 1.75 MW geothermal power plant began the final phase of infrastructure and installation in June 2013, while the solar panel project broke ground in July 2013 by installing 1,207 galvanized posts to support over 7,800 solar panels. The clean power plant sits at the top of Campus Drive, with the solar panels located on 9 acres of hillside adjacent to Moehl Stadium.
The projects set Oregon Tech up to become the first university in North America to reach a major goal to generate most—if not all—electrical power needed for the campus. Both projects utilized local labor.
This event is free and open to the public. Signs will direct attendees to parking with complimentary shuttle.
