With the rising cost of tuition, it is more important than ever that students are able to evaluate receiving a high-quality education in their chosen field, which is able to product a high return on investment. Most students are looking for schools with two key features: affordability and the promise of high-paying jobs after graduation. As such, the AffordableSchools.net crafted a list of 50 schools in across the nation that yield the best returns on investment, with the Oregon Institute of Technology ranking number 23.
Criterion for affordability is simple: an affordable college is one that charges no more than the average in-state tuition for a public college or university. As of 2014, that average is under $15,000. This is their cutoff. AfforableSchools notes that tuitions of private colleges and universities readily exceed $30,000 a year, with some even approaching $50,000 and that where in-state and out-of-state tuitions differ, they list in-state tuition costs.
AfforableSchools states, “Our criterion for return on investment looks at starting and mid-career salary, and then estimates total income over 15 years from the time of graduation. Specifically, we look at PayScale.com’s starting salary and 15-year salary after graduation, average the two, and multiply by 15, to estimate total income over 15 years from graduation.”
With the cost of college a concern for many families, it's important for students to find a school that produces successful, well-paid graduates. Therefore, it's equally important to recognize the colleges and universities that offer both quality and affordable post-secondary options.
