Oregon Institute of Technology will celebrate commencement at events in Klamath Falls and Wilsonville on June 10, 11, and 12. Three graduating students, Allie West, Mariano Segura, and Pamela Jackson, will present commencement addresses to the graduating classes, celebrating the accomplishments of fellow graduates and preparing them for the future.

In Klamath Falls, Oregon Tech will hold two ceremonies to honor graduates. The College of Health, Arts, and Sciences ceremony is Friday, June 10, at 2 p.m., and the College of Engineering, Technology, and Management will take place Saturday, June 11, at 10 a.m. Allie West is the student speaker for the College of Health, Arts, and Sciences ceremony, and Mariano Segura will speak at the ceremony to celebrate graduates of the College of Engineering, Technology, and Management.

Following the Klamath Falls events, the Portland-Metro campus will celebrate Sunday, June 12, at 2 p.m. with Pamela Jackson.

Allie Bernice QiuYue West, Vascular Technology

A single mother from Coos Bay, Oregon, Allie West is graduating from Vascular Technology. Allie has persevered through unexpected delays in her educational journey, taking a year off to care for her daughter, and has learned how to balance work, motherhood, and being a full-time student.

Recently completing an externship at Providence Medford Medical Center, Allie begins a position at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford as a Registered Vascular Technologist this summer.

Allie’s goal during her speech is to encourage her fellow classmates to go out and make a difference in the world, overcome challenges, and see the beauty in everything.

Mariano (Mario) Adlai Segura, Mechanical Engineering

After graduating valedictorian from Mazama High School in Klamath Falls, Mariano Segura was one of five students awarded a DeArmond Manufacturing Fellow, which provided a four-year scholarship and gave him a chance to study mechanical engineering at the Oregon Manufacturing Innovation Center Research and Development. The fellows are made possible through the Robert J. and Leona DeArmond Public Foundation.

Having completed an internship with Virgin Galactic as a mechanical systems design engineer, Mario accepted a job offer to begin working in their Tustin, California, office this August.

Mario’s speech will focus on preparing for competition, finding passion, and the power of adapting.

Pamela Roundy Jackson, Renewable Energy Engineering

As a non-traditional student and single mother of three, Pamela Jackson, who holds a Bachelor of Science in Discrete Math/Operations Research and a Master of Business Administration in Information Technology Management, moved across the country to enroll in concurrent bachelor and master's degrees in Renewable Energy Engineering at Oregon Tech as a step in contributing to solving the global energy dilemma to help save the world from the climate change crisis.

After graduation, Pamela aims to work in a national energy lab near Portland researching energy solutions.

During her speech, Pamela will encourage appreciation of past accomplishments and hope and excitement for the future.

Oregon Tech’s Seattle campus ceremony will take place Tuesday, June 14, to celebrate program graduates who are employees at Boeing. Jeremy Brown, Ph.D., will provide keynote remarks and mechanical engineering graduate Martin Lundberg will speak on behalf of students.
