Oregon Tech invites you to “Optical Engineering Tech Talk” on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 6 p.m. to meet our team, receive an overview of the optical engineering program, and learn about Microscopy, Innovation, and Kickstarter from special guest, Nick Bratt.
Oregon Tech alumnus Nick Bratt is President of 4D Optical and inventor of the MicrobeScope, a microscope that uses the camera on a cell phone, iPad, or tablet to magnify and send photos of microbes, anywhere, any time. Nick has raised $100,000 for this invention through Kickstarter. He will talk about his passion for invention, his start-up company, and the future of microscopes.
This event will also include a tour of the Optoelectronics lab, which allows for hands-on experience manipulating light. Here students calibrate photodetectors and learn quantitative radiometry to measure visible light. Advanced studies align lasers, grind mirrors, and splice fiber optics. By building spectroradiometers, microscopes, and interferometers from basic components, students acquire the critical skills needed to join one of more than 80 Oregon companies employing optoelectronics engineers.

About Oregon Tech Optical Engineering
The Oregon Tech Astronomy Club provides and promotes astronomical opportunities to all students at Oregon Tech who are interested in astronomy, stargazing, and community service. OTAC organizes stargazing events throughout each quarter where students can enjoy hot chocolate, snacks, and observe celestial objects as they traverse across the northern hemisphere. Local astronomers are actively involved with club activities, providing a wealth of knowledge and access to a broad range of astronomical equipment.
