The BCaBA® Course Sequence five-course sequence is integrated within the Applied Psychology undergraduate curriculum. The Association for Behavior Analysis International has verified the following courses toward coursework requirements for eligibility to take the Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst® examination.

Applicants for the BCaBA® exam will need to meet additional requirements before they can be deemed eligible to take the examination.

Application Process

Any Oregon Tech student may enroll in BCaBA courses as long as they meet the prerequisites for each course.

If you are a non-degree seeking student, please follow the instructions below to enroll in the BCaBA course sequence:

  1. Visit Application Log In page and then follow the link to create an account. If you have already created an account, use the same email and password you used previously.
  2. After creating your new account, choose the option to Start a new Undergraduate Application for admission from your new account homepage.
  3. When prompted identify yourself as a non-degree seeking student and either the Klamath Falls, Portland-Metro or Online Location.
  4. Select the Applied Psychology – Non Degree Seeking option.
  5. Submit your completed application. An Oregon Tech ID number will be issued after your application is processed.

To enroll in the course, email Dr. Kessler and state that you plan to take the BCaBA® courses. Please include your Oregon Tech student ID number.

Courses

PSY 334: Behavior Modification I (4 credits with Lab)
Measurement of behavior and key concepts of operant learning are covered, e.g., reinforcement, extinction, punishment, stimulus control and shaping, among others. Laboratory exercises are interactive computer simulations of these concepts.
Prerequisite: PSY 201 or 202 or 203.

PSY 335: Behavior Modification II (4 credits with Lab)
Principles learned in PSY 334 are applied to the study of human behavior. Key concepts of operant and respondent behavior, includes motivating operations, verbal behavior, differential reinforcement; applications to behavior change. 
Prerequisite: PSY 334.

PSY 434: Advanced Behavior Modification I (4 credits)
Behavioral assessment including identifying and selecting target behaviors; methods of assessment including preference assessments, skills-based assessments and functional analysis, data collection and interpretation; assessment-based selection of intervention; ethical and practical issues associated with assessment.
Pre- or corequisite: Psy 335.

PSY 435: Advanced Behavior Modification II (4 credits)
Applications of principles and techniques of applied behavior analysis to behavior change, behavioral interventions, behavior change systems, and specific behavior change procedures.
Prerequisite: PSY 434.

PSY 436: Ethics for Applied Behavior Analysis (3 credits)
Ethical and professional issues in applied behavior analysis with emphasis on Ethics Code and applications in human services.
Prerequisite: PSY 335.

PSY 456: Performance Management (4 credits)
Application of principles and techniques applied behavior analysis to change behavior, focus on implementation, management, and supervision of behavior change programs and systems in business, industry, and human services; methods of behavior analytic personnel supervision and management.
Prerequisite: PSY 335.
