Biomedical Sciences

Research-Based (Thesis) Track
If you're driven by discovery, this two-year track pairs you with a faculty research advisor to explore original questions in biomedical science. Alongside core coursework and electives, you’ll conduct hands-on research that prepares you for PhD programs, professional schools, or research-intensive careers in biotech, healthcare, and environmental health.
Course-Based (Non-Thesis) Track
Designed for flexibility and speed, this option can be completed in just one academic year. It’s ideal for professionals seeking advancement, science educators needing graduate credits, or students in a “gap year” preparing for medical, dental, or other graduate programs. You’ll complete a focused set of core courses and electives tailored to your goals—no thesis required.
3+2 Accelerated Pathway
Already an Oregon Tech undergrad? The 3+2 program lets you earn both your Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in just five years. Start in the Biology-Health Sciences program, apply in your third year, and begin graduate-level research and coursework in your fourth. It’s a fast track to advanced credentials and career readiness.

A Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at Oregon Tech is more than just a credential—it’s your launchpad into a world of discovery and innovation. Through immersive, hands-on learning, you’ll gain the skills to tackle real-world biological challenges in healthcare, biotechnology, environmental health, and beyond.
For students passionate about research and scientific inquiry, the thesis-based track offers a transformative experience. Over the course of approximately two years, you’ll work closely with a faculty research advisor to design and carry out an original research project in the biomedical sciences. Alongside a rigorous set of core courses and electives, this path gives you the opportunity to contribute meaningful insights to the field while preparing for PhD programs, professional schools, or research-intensive careers in the public or private sector.
The Biomedical Sciences thesis option is open to all applicants, regardless of the undergraduate field of study. However, the following criteria must be met:
- Baccalaureate Degree: Graduate students must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited university or institution.
- Letters of recommendation: Submit two letters of recommendation addressing the student’s qualifications and aptitude to succeed in the program.
- Research mentor: Students pursuing the Thesis option should include a letter of support from a potential faculty research mentor.
- Cover letter: Include a cover letter discussing the student’s research/internship interest and describe the student’s goal/purpose for obtaining the degree.

Admission Requirements
The Biomedical Sciences 3+2 Programs offer students the unique opportunity to graduate with both Baccalaureate and Master's degrees in five years.
Students interested in the Biomedical Sciences 3+2 Program must declare their major as Bachelor of Science in Biology-Health Sciences.
In the third year of the program, students must apply to the Biomedical Sciences 3+2 Program. Upon acceptance, students begin graduate coursework the following fall.

Program Overview
A Biomedical Sciences Master’s degree at Oregon Tech prepares students to apply techniques of scientific research to real-world biological problems encountered in industry, government, education, and business.
The research-based 3+2 thesis option pairs graduate students with a research advisor in order to pursue a research project in the biomedical sciences, in addition to a set of undergraduate and graduate core courses and electives.
