Graduate Director Nate Bickford
Dr. Nate Bickford brings a passion for ecological research and student mentorship to his role as Graduate Director at Oregon Tech. With a background in environmental science and a research portfolio spanning fish, birds, and mammals, his work explores how animals interact with their habitats—often in response to changing environmental conditions. A dedicated mentor, Dr. Bickford has guided many graduate and undergraduate students through research that leads to real-world impact. His lab focuses on conservation, sustainability, and interdisciplinary approaches to solving today’s most pressing ecological challenges.
Natural Resources graduate coordinator Christy VanRooyen
Christy VanRooyen combines a deep love for the outdoors with a passion for environmental science education and research. As Graduate Coordinator for the Natural Resources program, she supports students through every step of their academic journey. Her research focuses on pollinator ecology and environmental education, and she actively involves students in hands-on fieldwork through Oregon Tech’s on-campus apiary. Christy is also a dedicated mentor and advisor, helping students connect their academic goals with real-world environmental impact.
Physical Therapy graduate coordinator Marybeth GrantBeuttler
Dr. Marybeth Grant-Beuttler is an Associate Professor and Graduate Coordinator in Oregon Tech’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program. With a Ph.D. in Movement Science and clinical specialization in pediatrics, her expertise spans motor control, motor learning, and developmental movement. She brings decades of experience in both clinical practice and academic leadership, supporting students as they prepare for impactful careers in physical therapy.
Applied Behavior Analysis graduate coordinator Dawn Bailey
Dr. Dawn Bailey is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA-D) with over 25 years of experience designing behavioral and learning programs for individuals with autism, developmental disabilities, and emotional/behavioral disorders. As Graduate Coordinator for Oregon Tech’s Master of Science in Applied Behavior Analysis program, she brings a deep commitment to evidence-based practice, student mentorship, and community impact. Dr. Bailey also directs the BIG ABA Clinic, where she leads clinical services and research focused on improving access to care and training outcomes. She currently serves as President of the Association for Professional Behavior Analysts (APBA).
Healthcare Leadership graduate coordinator Sophie Nathenson
Dr. Sophie Nathenson is a medical sociologist and the founding director of Oregon Tech’s Population Health Management program. As Graduate Coordinator for Healthcare Leadership, she brings a unique blend of academic expertise and real-world experience in health systems, social innovation, and community-based research. Dr. Nathenson is passionate about empowering students to become forward-thinking leaders who can address the social and structural challenges in healthcare. Her work bridges the gap between data, policy, and practice—preparing graduates to lead with purpose and impact.
BioMedical Sciences graduate coordinator Travis Lund
Dr. Travis Lund is a biochemist and educator dedicated to helping students explore the molecular foundations of life and health. As Graduate Coordinator for the Biomedical Sciences program at Oregon Tech, he supports students pursuing careers in research, healthcare, and biotechnology. His teaching and research span organic chemistry, genetics, and biochemistry, with a focus on student-centered learning and undergraduate research. Dr. Lund brings both academic rigor and mentorship to the program, preparing students for success in graduate school, professional programs, and the biomedical workforce.

Dr. Charles Riley is a structural engineer, educator, and hands-on innovator who brings real-world relevance into every classroom. As Graduate Coordinator for Oregon Tech’s Civil Engineering program, he combines deep expertise in structural mechanics and bridge design with a passion for engineering education. Dr. Riley is known for his dynamic

Mariage Family Therapy graduate coordinator Kevin Garrett
Dr. Kevin Garrett brings a wealth of clinical and academic experience to his role as Graduate Coordinator and Clinical Director of Oregon Tech’s Marriage and Family Therapy program. With a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Kansas State University and over a decade of experience in community mental health and higher education, Dr. Garrett is passionate about training future therapists to serve individuals, couples, and families with compassion and evidence-based care. His areas of expertise include integrated behavioral healthcare, medical family therapy, and clinical supervision. A native Oregonian, he is deeply committed to community engagement and student mentorship.
Renewable Energy Engineering graduate coordinator Feng Shi
Dr. Feng Shi is a leading researcher and educator in solar energy systems and advanced renewable technologies. As Graduate Coordinator for Oregon Tech’s Renewable Energy Engineering program, he brings a global perspective and decades of experience in photovoltaics, solar thermal systems, and sustainable energy storage. His work focuses on increasing efficiency, reducing costs, and improving the reliability of renewable energy solutions.
