The Oregon Institute of Technology (Oregon Tech) announced today the selection of Steven R. Neiheisel as Vice President of Strategic Enrollment Management for the university. A native of California and most recently at Northern Michigan University, Dr. Neiheisel will be building a new enrollment management function at Oregon Tech, aligning existing departments under a new umbrella division. Neiheisel will be introduced to the campus on its Convocation events the week of September 19, and will begin at Oregon Tech in mid-October.

“We’re really looking forward to Dr. Neiheisel’s arrival on campus, and the beginning of a new era of enrollment management at Oregon Tech,” said Jay Kenton, Interim President of Oregon Tech. “Steve’s many years of experience in launching enrollment management functions at universities make him a great addition to the university’s senior management team. Our ability to continue to grow and serve the needs of Oregon students is more and more reliant on finding the best ways to reach and support students who are looking for STEM and other applied degrees. Steve’s background in finding the optimal ways to expand access and on-campus support for students, including financial aid, will help take our polytechnic to the next level.”

Dr. Neiheisel will be tasked with aligning the functions and activities of admissions, financial aid, the Registrar and retention at Oregon Tech, for Klamath Falls and Wilsonville campuses, and for all of the university's other delivery sites, including at Chemeketa Community College and the Seattle campus which serves Boeing employees with on-site degree programs.

Steve Neiheisel said, “I’m really looking forward to launching this new function at Oregon Tech and helping the university achieve its comprehensive enrollment goals over the short- and long-term. Oregon Tech’s value proposition for students is among the highest in the nation and tops the charts in Oregon for graduates’ return on investment. From the quality of the faculty and programs to graduates’ success rates in the workforce and in terms of high salaries, Oregon Tech is poised for even greater success. I’ve worked in the Pacific Northwest and have family in Oregon, so becoming part of the Oregon Tech family is really like returning home for my wife Cindy and I.”

Prior to joining Oregon Tech, Dr. Neiheisel was VP for Enrollment Management and Student Services at Northern Michigan University beginning in 2013 where he was responsible for the areas that he will manage at Oregon Tech, as well as marketing, career services, international programs and several others. Before his time at NMU, Neiheisel was AVP for Enrollment Management at the University of Idaho from 2008 to 2013; and in prior years between 1988 and 2008 was Associate Provost for Enrollment Management at Idaho State University; a higher education consultant with Jenzabar, Inc; Associate Dean for Enrollment Services at the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay; Dean of Enrollment Management at Carroll College; Director of Enrollment Management at the University of Illinois – Springfield; and Registrar at Eastern Washington University. Dr. Neiheisel has been a frequent speaker at national enrollment related conferences over the years and has been active with higher education professional associations.

Neiheisel received his BA in Mathematics and Information Systems from California State University – Dominguez Hills; and his MA and PhD in Higher Education Administration from The Ohio State University.

Dr. Kenton added, “I want to thank members of the Search Committee for all of their hard work and dedication to this process over the last few months. They reached this successful outcome under the leadership of Search Chair Di Saunders and Committee members Lita Colligan, Barb Conner, Tracey Lehman, Dean LeAnn Maupin, Dana Onorato, Professor Kris Rosenberg, and Carl Thomas. This furthers Oregon Tech’s goal of building a strong senior leadership team, with a new president and provost adding to this over the next 6-9 months as we complete those important searches.”
