Oregon Tech was recently ranked among the best schools in the nation in Forbes’ annual ranking of Top Colleges. These rankings of 650 schools – the top 20 percent of all four-year and graduate universities in the nation – use data from sources such as the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, the Department of Education’s College Scorecard, Payscale and Niche.
According to Forbes, the ranking focuses on the things that matter the most to students: quality academics and student satisfaction, on-time graduation rates, low student debt and high earning potential and career success. The ROI-centric logic behind this year’s ranking is no different, but part of the methodology and some of the data sources have been reexamined and revamped to better align this list with what FORBES values most: entrepreneurship, success and the consumer experience.
The rankings are based on five general categories: Post-Graduate Success (35 percent), an evaluation of alumni pay and prominence; Student Experience (20 percent), including professor evaluations and freshman to sophomore retention rates; Debt (20 percent); Graduation Rate (12.5 percent); and Academic Success (12.5 percent).
Oregon Tech is listed at 436 overall, up more than 100 spots from last year’s ranking. The university also ranked #144 in Public Colleges and #81 for Colleges in the West. Graduates of Oregon Tech enjoy an outstanding graduate success rate, with almost 95 percent either employed or enrolled in graduate school within six months of graduation. Graduates also earn an average starting annual salary of $56,000.
