At Oregon Tech, Emergency Management works collaboratively with its campus and community partners to support the university’s comprehensive, all-hazards approach in building organizational and personal resilience to the impacts and stressors of emergencies, natural disasters and public safety incidents. This outcome is achieved through the use of highly effective, creative, inclusive and sustainable prevention, preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery strategies.

Key Emergency Management Strategies

Prevention by avoiding an incident or intervening to stop an incident from occurring.
Preparedness by building individual and university readiness through planning, training, drills, exercises and community awareness.
Mitigation by taking steps to reduce risks or lessen the effect of disasters when they do occur.
Response when disasters strike, coordinating university resources with local, state and federal partners to save lives, protect property and defend the environment.
Recovery by maintaining critical university functions and resuming core business operations as quickly as possible after the event.

Core Functions of Emergency Management

Lead university-wide emergency management programs and services.
Coordinate the university’s response to all emergencies to include on-scene support.
Develop and implement comprehensive emergency management plans and procedures.
Create and deliver standardized emergency preparedness training.
Plan, coordinate and execute emergency preparedness drills and exercises.
Manage the university’s Emergency Operations Center.
Provide direct support to the campus community ensuring readiness and resilience.
Collaborate with emergency management and public safety partners.
