Oregon Tech Seattle offers two programs for the SME Certification.
Students can enroll in review classes for both Certified Manufacturing Technologist and Certified Manufacturing Engineer.
Oregon Tech Seattle offers review classes for both the Certified Manufacturing Technologist and Certified Manufacturing Engineer exams. Students completing the course(s) receive college credit. The exams for both certifications are offered on the last day of class, although students are not required to pass the exam in order to pass the class.
Students can apply to the Learning Together Program for tuition/fee assistance, otherwise all students are responsible for payment of tuition and fees. The exam fee of $195.00 is not covered by LTP and must be paid for at the time of the exam. The SME membership fee of $42.50 is also not covered by LTP and must be paid for by the student.
SME Certified Manufacturing Technologist
The Oregon Tech Seattle Program also offers a 4-credit, upper division review class for employees electing to take SMEs Certified Manufacturing Technologist Exam. The review topics include:
- Mathematical Fundamentals
- Physics
- Engineering Sciences
- Materials
- Product Design
- Manufacturing Processes
Students who wish may take the SME Manufacturing Technologist Exam on the last day of class; however students are not required to take the SME exam in order to pass the class.
Prerequisite Skills and Knowledge: Industrial Experience and/or Manufacturing Engineering Technology coursework is required for this course.
Certified Manufacturing Technologist Requirements
Minimum of four years manufacturing related work experience or two years completed toward a college degree.
OR Substitution of two years completed toward a college degree in a manufacturing related field and two years manufacturing work related experience.
Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Manufacturing Certification Exam.
SME Certified Manufacturing Engineer
The Oregon Tech Seattle Program also offers a 4-credit, upper division review class for employees electing to take SMEs Certified Manufacturing Engineer Exam. The review topics include:
- Manufacturing Processes & Practices
- Product & Tool Design
- Facility Operations
- Floor Operations
- Material Handling
Focus Area: Manufacturing Processes: Electronics Manufacturing, Material Removal, Material Forming, Fabrication, Assembly, Finishing, Molding, Casting.
Prerequisite Skills and Knowledge: Industrial Experience and/or Manufacturing Enterprises/Engineering Technology coursework is required for this course.
Certified Manufacturing Engineer Requirements
Minimum of ten years manufacturing related work experience and/or education and Successful completion of the Manufacturing Engineer Processes Certification Exam.
Note: A certified manufacturing technologist may pursue manufacturing engineer certification after seven years of work experience and/or education.
