A Little Bit About Me

I was born in Newport, OR, and my family moved to Kalispell, MT, when I was in elementary school. We lived there until my freshman year of high school, when we moved to Creswell, OR. In high school I became very involved in Jazz Band and Cross Country, and had a lot of fun with both of those sports. Now, in college, I'm more into going to the gym, outdoor adventures, working on side projects related to my major, hanging out with friends, and reading. I've really come to love what I do at Oregon Tech, and the faculty in the CSET department are truly amazing. I have an amazing family of four (including myself, my mom, dad, and younger sister), and a dog named Molly back home in Creswell. This summer I'll be working in landscaping as a nice change of pace from looking at screens so often.

Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major

I chose Oregon Tech for several reasons. During my junior year of high school, I thought that I'd major in music. After a year and a half of COVID and online schooling, I decided that technology suited me better. The small class sizes and unique Embedded Systems Engineering degree are what led me to Oregon Tech. I thrive when I can ask questions, and small class sizes have proved to be amazing for that reason.

My Influential Professors

George Drouant, a professor in the CSET department, has been very influential in my life, both academically and personally. Academically, George is studious, curious, smart, and has a true passion for learning and for Embedded Systems. George has inspired me to continue with my studies by showing me ways that the major I'm in can have a real impact on others, and that sometimes the steps taken to reach a solution to a problem are more important than the destination. Personally, George is truly kind, and never fails to help a student who has a question, sometimes spending up to an hour working through a problem with students.

My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech

Over the past year, whether serving as a Resident Advisor, or just a classmate/friend, it has been surprising to see the impact that the choices I make have on those around me. I've learned that when a classmate is stuck on a concept or a resident has a question about Housing, I am able to choose, by my response and attitude, to make a real difference in their life. My greatest learning experience at Oregon Tech has been the realization that I am able to make a positive and noticeable difference in my community every day.

My Plans After Graduation

As a career, I've always been interested in working for Garmin. I grew up wearing a Garmin running watch, and now that I understand the amount of embedded systems that are utilized in Garmin's products, I find the company to be very interesting. If I don't work for Garmin, I have a lot of ideas for my own products and would love to start a company someday. In my personal life, I'd love to get married and have kids after graduation. I grew up with amazing parents and would love to be able to be a good father.
