A Little Bit About Me

Jonathan Laitinen

I have lived in Klamath Falls my entire life going from Shasta elementary-Brixner Middle-Mazama High. I love the area as I love the outdoors. The area is perfect for fishing and hiking, which I love, and gives me lots of opportunities to meet new people. I have been playing cornhole competitively for about the past year traveling as far as Albany for tournaments; this year, I hope to go to more tournaments up in the Portland area. In high school I played both soccer and golf, earning honorable mentions in soccer and going to state in golf.

Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major

My major was an easy choice as my dad is a mechanical engineer and enjoys it and I am very mathematically minded, so it seemed like the perfect choice.

My Influential Professors

My most influential teachers from my high school were Daniel Solyst and Justin Davidson. Mr. Solyst taught me the importance of staying on top of things and not falling behind in my classes. He pushed me harder than any other teacher did. Mr. Davidson showed me how to have fun in almost any circumstance, he is always lighthearted and brings joy to the room. We both play cornhole and travel the state going to different tournaments, it is always a fun time being around him.

My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech

My greatest learning experience was playing soccer at Mazama high and learning how to be a leader. I always thought that leaders had to take control all the time and command the team. I realized quickly that leaders lead through example and being encouraging. Granted there are times to be harsh but for the majority of the time you need to be encouraging and help out to the best of your abilities.

My Plans After Graduation

My plans are to hopefully stay in Oregon and get a job with an engineering firm. I want to eventually start up my own firm as well. I also plan to keep playing soccer at the semi-pro level.
