A Little Bit About Me

I grew up in the Tigard area and have been a lifelong Oregonian. I have always enjoyed biology and chemistry courses growing up, but for a while was not quite sure where to direct that passion. Finding Oregon Tech's medical laboratory science program felt like a cartoon light bulb went off above my head. I am very excited to be pursuing something that feeds my academic passion and allows me to be a piece of the puzzle in diagnosing and treating diseases.

Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major

I am interested in medical laboratory science as it combines my love of laboratory work with my desire to work in the medical industry. I chose Oregon Tech as the MLS program has an excellent reputation for hands-on learning, which is important for such a hands-on career. I also enjoy the small class sizes and tight-knit community of the Portland campus.

My Influential Professors

Dr. Hugh Jarrard, Professor Mary Hogan, and Dr. Greg Pak were all amazing professors to have as a health sciences student. They all brought unique industry experience to the classes they taught, as well as obvious passion for what they were teaching.

My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech

Medical Microbiology was an amazing course! The lab especially was such an important way to build foundational skills that will be directly transferable to the medical laboratory science professional program, as well as my career.

My Plans After Graduation

After graduation, I plan to spend my first few years in the industry working as a generalist in a hospital to build a strong foundation of MLS skills and knowledge, as well as use the time to explore areas I may be interested in specializing in. After solidifying my foundation I hope to pursue a specialty. My current interests include women's health and oncology, but I am also open to seeing what interests may be piqued by working in the field!
