A Little Bit About Me

My first experience in the medical field was when I joined the US Navy as a Hospital Corpsman. I served for seven years and learned the skills of a vocational nurse, EMT and a Surgical Technician. I gained experience that made me a valuable member of the local community upon my discharge. My goal was to continue my education and I earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Oregon State University. I have spent the last 15 years investing in raising my four children. I hope to show them by completing this Medical Laboratory Science program that we can accomplish great things at any time in our lives with some effort and dedication.

Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major

I chose Oregon Tech because it has a great reputation in Oregon. I have seen others be very successful learning through Oregon Tech. I chose my major through my experience as a phlebotomist at West Valley Hospital. I had the opportunity to see what the MLT's job looked like and how it appealed to me. It is a career that will utilize my knowledge on a regular basis and challenge me to continue to learn.

My Influential Professors

The professors that most influenced me were from my time at Oregon State University. I had enthusiastic professors that displayed the complexity of the biochemistry, microbiology, and cellular processes. They explained the intricacies of how all the parts of cells, tissues, and organs work together in the human body.

My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech

I bring a background that is diverse throughout the hospital setting. I have experience in medical wards, patient admissions, ENT clinic, operating room, and the laboratory. I understand how the different areas in a hospital depend upon and support each other. Throughout my life I have worked hard to accomplish my goals. My dedication has proven fruitful, and this will be another achievement.

My Plans After Graduation

My hope is to serve in my local hospital laboratory in the future. I want to return to the lab where I worked as a phlebotomist and perform the job of an MLT. I very much enjoyed working with the people there and I was encouraged to return once I completed the Medical Laboratory Science Program. I would like to work in this field for the rest of my professional career.
