A Little Bit About Me
My name is Parker Pratt, and I grew up in Salem Oregon. I have one brother, and we love to do everything together. Even though he is two years younger than me, we always found a way to play baseball, basketball, and football together with my dad being the coach. Nowadays, I still love playing sports and although I’m not good enough for the official Oregon Tech teams, I enjoy playing basketball, football, and rugby with a rec team. I’m also a Christian and try my best to spread the love of Jesus through everything that I do. In my free time I also like to hang around with friends over a game of pool and build relationships that will hopefully last a lifetime.
Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major
In my senior year of high school, I had no idea where I would like to go to college. I knew I wanted to major in a programming field but nothing specific. That was until I went on a campus tour and sat in on a data science class at Oregon Tech. The topic immediately piqued my interest and after doing some research, I learned that Oregon Tech would be the best place for me to accomplish my goals.
My Influential Professors
The professor that has been most influential to me is Professor Joseph Reid. As my faculty advisor and data science professor, he has had a significant positive impact on me while at Oregon Tech. He has taught me everything I know about data science and what I could expect from working in this field in the real world. I greatly look forward to continuing my learning with him at school and beyond.
My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech
My greatest learning experience at Oregon Tech has been working with a team to make a product in a way similar to how it is done at most companies. In one of my classes last spring, I worked in a team with three others to create a product that automatically comments python code. This involved documentation, planning, teamwork, management, and presenting and overall was a massive learning experience that taught me what I could expect in the data science field.
My Plans After Graduation
At the moment I do not have any set plans after I graduate. I am considering attending graduate school to further my knowledge of data science somewhere on the West coast. However, if I decide against that, I will look for a career in this field preferably in the Pacific Northwest and work my way up from there. My goal is to have a career that I thoroughly enjoy close to home and to start my own family.
