A Little Bit About Me

I’ve been in the Honors Program at Oregon Tech for the past two years and have thoroughly enjoyed my experience in the program and gained a lot of academic confidence in the past couple of years. I enjoy playing Pickleball and working out at the gym, where I also work at the front desk. I also enjoy reading, from classics like the Brontë sisters and Jane Austen, to more contemporary works from Margaret Atwood, and many societally challenging and thought-provoking books.

Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major

I chose to go to Oregon Tech because I’m from Klamath Falls, so I would be able to save money by staying at home. Since my parents divorced when I was 2 years old, my father has never paid any child support for the 16 years he needed to, and soon after my mom remarried. She and my stepdad started a business, using any money she saved up for me to go to college. I chose to go into the Biology Health Science major at Oregon Tech because it’s a very diverse major with a lot of opportunities to work in any healthcare field of my choosing. I’ve always been fascinated with Biology and Chemistry, as well as being very personable, and I have always had a desire to help people in any way that I possibly could. This major will allow me to provide the help that people need in very stressful situations, such as having health problems, with an unbelievable amount of hands-on experience that will prepare me for going into graduate school.

My Influential Professors

After being in the Honors Program for 2 years now (going into my 3rd year), Dr. Syrnyk has become my most influential professor. He has taught me how to become a more confident and well-rounded individual, learning from different perspectives, pushing me out of my comfort zone, and discussing controversial topics in a thoughtful way. After reading and discussing 6 books and several articles over the past 2 years, I have a more diverse view of the world and am not afraid to speak my honest and more knowledgeable thoughts to others who may not agree with them and explain my reasoning in a calm and thoughtful manner.

My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech

Being in the Honors Program has been the best learning experience I’ve had at Oregon Tech. I’ve learned how to think more critically, ask more thought-provoking questions, and have a deeper appreciation for non-fiction literature that questions our society and humanity.

My Plans After Graduation

Lately, I’ve been more unsure about what I specifically want to do with my degree, however, I do know that I want to work in patient-focused healthcare and work with children or women. For example, being a Physical Therapist for children with congenital diseases or in postpartum pelvic care are my top options. Women’s health, but more specifically postpartum pelvic care is a very understudied field that goes unnoticed but is very crucial for the health of women after they give birth.
