Oregon Tech's hands-on accounting degree program combines a robust accounting foundation infused with information technology and general business components.

The accounting degree program incorporates technology into most accounting courses while also reinforcing the principles of financial and managerial accounting, tax, and auditing. Many students take the CMA or CPA exams upon graduating, go on to graduate school, and/or find employment in this growing, in-demand career field.

Why accounting at Oregon Tech?

Small Class Sizes

The average class size is between 10-15 students who are given a personalized education working alongside dedicated business faculty leaders.

Faculty Interaction

Oregon Tech accounting students benefit from interactions with faculty not only in the classroom, but as mentors as well. Faculty serve as advisers for students guiding their educational pathway and helping them prepare for and enter their professional careers. A majority of the accounting faculty are CPAs with substantial work-related experience and serve on various professional accounting associations and committees. 

Hands-On Projects

Faculty work with industry partners to develop a wide variety of hands-on projects so students can apply their accounting knowledge to solve real world business problems. Students complete projects with local businesses and clients.

Internships

Students are encouraged to apply their accounting education through an internship experience during their junior year. Internship placement is supported by Career Development, faculty, and industry partners.

Exam Pass Rates

Oregon Tech helps prepare students for the CPA exam. In 2014, Oregon Tech ranked third for CPA exam pass rates in the state of Oregon, surpassing other major Oregon universities.

Job Placement

Oregon Tech accounting graduates enjoy a 94% success rate. Six months after graduation, 81% of graduates are employed with another 13% enrolled in continuing education.

Senior Project Experience

The senior project provides accounting students with the opportunity to design their own “capstone experience”, integrating their educational experience by developing a solution for a “real world” business problem in their area of interest. This culminating year-long experience includes project management, research approaches, analysis, and a final presentation at the annual Oregon Tech Project Symposium.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics and Oregon Workforce, accountants and auditors are expected to experience continued growth over the short- and long-term.

Accounting is a long-standing profession that continually evolves with technological advancements. Business and Accounting faculty work with industry partners to develop a relevant, up-to-date curriculum that prepares career-ready graduates. We have placed our graduating students at organizations such as Jeld-Wen, Moss Adams, Klamath County, Phoenix School of Roseburg, Lake Health District Hospital, and ACA Compliance Group.
