President of the Geomatics club, volunteer historian at Fort Stevens State Park, Resident Advisor on Oregon Tech Klamath Falls Campus
A Little Bit About Me
I'm a small-town guy from the Pacific northwest. I'm an outdoors kind of guy that hunts, fishes and finds himself in the woods whenever I can. I am very knowledgeable of local and foreign history and that is where I find my passion in studying and performing volunteer actions in being a living historian at the Fort Stevens State Park. There, I share my knowledge of the fort and the surrounding area to tourists and locals alike. I was an all-state athlete in baseball and an all-league athlete in football in high school, but my senior year was cut short due to COVID-19, so I never had a senior year of baseball. The school year of 2022-23 I took a gap year to make money to go to school and I learned more about my career in the real world.
Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major
Simply because Oregon Tech had my major. I was previously at Oregon State University where I learned about land surveying, only to find out that Oregon Tech was the only 4-year school that offered surveying.
My Influential Professors
The two that come to mind immediately are Professor Jack Walker and Professor John Ritter, two head Professors in my major and both a wealth of knowledge in the field. Their classes have been the best experience at Oregon Tech. The unfortunate news of their departure into retirement has really put a dampener on the Geomatics program as a whole but I see this as a chance to step up and help in leading the incoming surveyors and make my mark on them on their path to becoming professionals in the field.
My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech
My greatest learning experience at Oregon Tech has been the sense of a small rooted but deep community that I have only found being in a small town where my graduating class knew each other from kindergarten. Everyone from many different backgrounds here to reach their goal in bettering themselves in a career in a STEM profession and the connections and friendships from which is a great learning experience itself. The most impactful experience, however, has been being a Resident Advisor for the residents, showing me the real side of community.
My Plans After Graduation
My plans for after graduating is to continue where I am in the current surveying company I'm employed with, S&F Land Services, who was founded by OIT alumni. From there I will pursue my professional licensure in the state of Oregon and Washington and then wherever else I see fit.
