A Little Bit About Me
I was raised in Merrill, Oregon, a quaint community 15 minutes outside of Klamath Falls, Oregon. I have worked hard academically, but I am also a well-rounded person who was involved in athletics and volunteerism while being employed. I was involved in football (4 years), basketball (2 years), and track (3-4 years (COVID)) during high school, and I was a State Champion in football and track. During the summer months, I worked for H & T Organics and Seus Family Farms as a field laborer. In the summer of 2022, I worked for Youth Conservation Corp at the Lava Beds National Monument as a YCC crew member. I also earned over 138.50 hours of community service ranging from a Youth Counselor at Outdoor School to local events such as: Klamath Basin Potato Festival and the Bluegrass Festival.
Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major
I chose to attend Oregon Institute of Technology because I have taken accelerated learning at Lost River Jr. Sr. High School through Klamath Community College and Oregon Institute of Technology. When I graduated high school on June 10, 2023, I accumulated several credit hours. Oregon Tech also is one of the few colleges that offers a degree in Geomatics.
My Greatest Learning Experience
I volunteered to be an outdoor school counselor in high school. We were at the coast for a week, and it was a learning experience every day. We would hike down to the shore and learn about the marine life, play games, and enjoy meals together; however, the most memorable part of the trip was chasing and tracking down students who would wonder off the path into the woods. At times, it became a constant. After this experience, I believe distractions will not hinder my studies, as I have learned to cope with different personalities.
My Plans After Graduation
From work experience and my degree, I would like to pursue Outback Land Surveying. I have already made connections with businesses that will provide me with an internship, which may lead to future employment. One opportunity is in the Klamath Basin and the other is in the Bitterroots of Montana. Both would offer unique experiences due to geography and ecology, but they would both overlap with similarities.
