A Little Bit About Me

I grew up in a fairly rural area but moved to the suburbs in my sophomore year of high school. I prefer living in a suburban area because everything is so close to our house now, but I miss the wildlife around our old house. I have always had pets, and I bond strongly with my animals. Currently, I have two cats, Comet and Remi, who live with me in my apartment near campus. They mean everything to me, and they are wonderful for helping me manage my anxiety and stress. I enjoy the relatively small size of Oregon Tech as I bump into people I know all the time, and it isn't an overwhelming school. I have loved taking more challenging math classes and learning more about possible future career paths through civil engineering. I now know that I want to focus on transportation.

Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major

As a kid, I never had a "dream job." Nothing stuck out to me as interesting enough to do forever. During my 8th grade summer, I attended a Transportation camp at Oregon Tech, and I discovered a passion for design in transportation. Immediately after that camp, I knew I would be a Civil Engineer. I chose Oregon Tech because it was where my journey began, and I appreciate the value held to learning at OIT.

My Influential Professors

Both Dr. Yocum and Dr. Neupert were very influential professors in my freshman year. Dr. Yocum taught four of my engineering courses last year and was a wonderful professor. Her classes are always interesting, never just lectures, and all of our classwork was meaningful. Dr. Neupert taught two film classes, which I took for humanities credits. His classes and the material that he covers are fascinating, and I was surprised by how much there is to learn about film! I hope to take classes taught by both of them in the future.

My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech

My greatest learning experience so far has been the ability to learn about civil engineering throughout even my first year. Oregon Tech has amazed me by offering courses that are relevant to my degree, even in my freshman year. I was expecting a boring, throwaway year just to get through all the prerequisites; however, I was provided with a year of engineering-filled courses and labs where I was able to learn so many new skills. I am so thankful that I chose to study at Oregon Tech.

My Plans After Graduation

After my Bachelor's degree, I plan on staying for a 5th year to graduate with a Master's degree. Although I am not sure exactly what job I want, I will be prioritizing a positive impact on the environment. Whether it be designing an eco-friendly city or purifying water, I want to make a difference. In my search for a career, I will be looking for something that challenges me, but I would also like to find a place where I can make meaningful connections with the people around me.
