Why it is important to me to be involved with the Oregon Tech Foundation

It is important to be involved in promoting and facilitating higher education because for my family, it paved the way to a better life. Better by developing a profession that afforded a desirable lifestyle, a challenging career that also provided advancement opportunities and worldwide travel, and a stimulating accumulation of friends with diverse social and cultural backgrounds. Because it worked for my family, I am convinced that it will also work for others who grow up with limited financial resources but are willing to work hard and behave wisely to achieve their goals. I have served as the Practice Administrator at Oregon Imaging Centers for 3 years, and I have been part of the organization in various roles for more than 24 years. I have previously held the role of Operations Director and managed our PET/CT department prior to that. I have been a nuclear medicine technologist for 26 years to date. My current role gives me the opportunity to assist all of the patients coming through our doors daily, and I get to interact with an amazing group of healthcare workers every day as well.

Prior Position/Company

Prior to working at Oregon Imaging Centers I worked for Oregon Positron Imaging. Oregon Positron Imaging brought the first dedicated PET scanner into the state of Oregon in early 2000, at that time PET was an exceedingly new and rare technology.

Current Volunteer Activities

My other activities include serving as the Chairperson for the Oregon Board of Medical Imaging (OBMI) where I get to work with colleagues from across the state ensuring the protection of the public health and welfare of Oregonians undergoing medical imaging studies and therapies. I also serve as a board member of the Radiology Business Managers Association’s Oregon chapter, as part of the board I get to assist the field of radiology as a whole by advocating for the interests of radiology professionals. My most exciting role though is working with youth athletics, I’ve enjoyed opportunities in coaching my son throughout many years of sports activities, primarily baseball.

Why it is important to me to be involved with the Oregon Tech Foundation

My parents had four children and three of them attended Oregon Tech. Oregon Tech has served me and my family well, and I want to be part of making Oregon Tech standing strong, like a Douglas Fir tree, 100 years from now.

Tragically, we lost my sister while she was attending Oregon Tech. I guess a lot of my passion being involved in Oregon Tech the last number of years was due to my desire to be able to endow a scholarship in her name with our family's support and watch those funds allow someone else to earn their respective degree and make the world a better place for themselves, their family, and children with the skills and degree that they had earned from Oregon Tech.

I feel that we need to be focused on making Oregon Tech available to those who may not have been able to attend college on their own, but with the Foundation’s resources, are able to attend one of our campuses, leave and make the world a better place with what they have achieved at Oregon Tech.

Why it is important to me to be involved with the Oregon Tech Foundation

My father was a founding member of the Oregon Tech booster club in the 1960's. As his leg man in promoting fund raising activities, riding my bike around town and hanging posters for everything from Portland Wrestling to the Los Angeles Lakers, my blood began to take on a hue of Blue and Gold. Spending countless hours in what is now Danny Miles court, I served as the doorman, ticket taker and locker room door protector. Hundreds of hours on the road supporting Owl athletics defined my youth. A family oriented supportive campus life, and dignified student athletes are two things that epitomize how Oregon Tech functions with a dignity and honor that is somehow disappearing from society. I am extremely honored to be a member of the Oregon Tech family, and proud to support an institution that provides an example for a confusing and self-absorbed world.

The first time that I heard about OIT when I was in high school was my senior year.  I eventually toured the campus, attending and completing a Bachelor's Degree in Geomatics (land surveying).  The education and connections that I developed during my time at OIT allowed me to have the success that I now enjoy but could have easily missed if I had not learned about the University.  I plan to use my time on the board to do what I can to promote and spread the word about OIT.

As the youngest grandchild of Andrew M. Collier, a great community-builder in the early days of Klamath, I feel a deep sense of responsibility to the legacy of doing good in our community. OIT is our area’s most distinguished and vital educational institution. The opportunity to help advance the mission of such an institution is an honor. As an MBA and lifelong business strategist, I’m especially interested in OIT’s business-related education initiatives and entrepreneurial programs like Catalyze Klamath.

Why it is important to me to be involved with the Oregon Tech Foundation

Since moving to Klamath Falls about 10 years ago I have learned more about Oregon Tech each year and attended several showcases and tours and met several faculty. I am particularly impressed with the collaborative and hands-on approach taken by Oregon Tech faculty and with the overall success of the university. For the last two years my wife and I have funded several scholarships to help deserving students pursue their degrees. With the cost of education these days it is vitally important that the Oregon Tech Foundation does its best to support deserving students.

  • I offer free Career and Leadership development coaching to university students nationwide. Helping them develop leadership skills, resume and interview preparation, networking, and positioning them for a great career.
