I am a computational and theoretical physicist who loves to teach. Physics explores the fundamental principles that apply to everything in the universe — from individual atoms to living systems and modern technology. I introduce students to these principles in my classes and apply the same principles in my research.
I earned a B.A. in physics and astronomy from DePauw University and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in physics and astronomy from the University of Pennsylvania. The focus of my Ph.D. research was modifying the electronic and optical properties of carbon nanotubes using electromagnetic fields. Since then, I have continued to investigate nanotechnology, but my interests have expanded to include quantum chemistry, biological physics, epidemic models, radio astronomy, gravitational lensing, and quantum computing. I enjoy working with students on research projects and bringing contemporary physics research into the classroom.
